What is Indian Oud?

Oud is the resinous heartwood of the Aquilaria tree, formed when the tree becomes infected with a specific mould (Phialophora parasitica). The tree responds by producing a dark, intensely aromatic resin — and this resinous wood is what we call oud or agarwood.

India is one of the world's oldest sources of agarwood, with references found in ancient Ayurvedic texts, Sanskrit poetry, and even the Vedas.

1. Assam Oud (Northeast India)
